Monday, May 11: “‘I Put Her In The Well’: Felony, Slavery & Personhood in Early America” In-Person Discussion with Arrannè Rispoli, PhD candidate in History at UCLA

Please join ACGCC; The Slavery, Captivity, And The Meaning Of Freedom Research Focus Group; and The Legal Humanities Research Focus Group next Monday, May 11th at 4PM in HSSB 6028 (the Crowell Reading Room) for a discussion with Arrannè Rispoli, PhD candidate in History at UCLA.

We will be discussing a chapter from Rispoli’s dissertation-in-progress, entitled “‘Feloniously, Voluntarily, and of her Malice forethought’: Legal Procedure, Gender, and the Penalties of Personhood,” which is part of Rispoli’s broader consideration of the “procedural mechanisms employed in colonial New England capital trials” in an effort to “gain insight into the factors that generated racial disparities in legal outcomes.”

Reach out to us over email, at acgcc@english.ucsb.edu, or via social media to receive a copy of the chapter.

We hope to see you there!
